Extreme Weather …

… but we Accentuate the Positive!

This week’s Guardian newspaper reports that the Caribbean is suffering major damage from extreme weather events. And yes it’s accurate. We’ve seen the damage that Hurricane Melissa has done to Jamaica. We’re already helping to replant thousands of fruit trees, working with the Forestry Department, with emphasis on the hardest hit areas.

We’re turning the bad news on its head. It’s a call to action. We’re encouraging Caribbean governments to plant more fruit trees both to feed their people and mitigate negative climate effects. Already the Jamaican government is actively promoting fruit trees, food self-sufficiency and climate adaptation. We at Trees That Feed Foundation helped to introduce three improved new varieties of avocado. The Ministry of Agriculture is bringing in drip irrigation for more efficient use of water resources in agriculture. Barbados is another shining example of adaptation. With increasing environmental risk, not to mention nutrition and economic value, Caribbean countries can’t wait much longer to act!

With your support, we’ll keep on pushing!
