Planting Fruit Trees

Our mission revolves around planting fruit trees, which mitigate carbon emissions, eliminate hunger, and create job opportunities for economic stability.

We work with trusted nurserymen in various tropical countries. We help them learn to propagate trees like breadfruit. They and other partners distribute the trees we purchase to people who receive a voucher after filling out our Tree Request Form.

In some areas that do not have a supply of breadfruit trees, we work with tissue growers. We make sure there are people to get a permit, receive the trees, care for the trees upon arrival, and plant the trees in their final destination.

Anyone can apply for tree donations through our Tree Request Form. However, we want to ensure you will be able to successfully maintain the donated trees, so you will need to answer all of the questions asked. We will follow-up through email, ask any missing question, and let you know if you qualify for tree donations.

School Visit

Our most commonly distributed tree is the breadfruit, but we have provided many other kinds of food-bearing trees, including  mango, avocado, cashew, fig, guava, pomegranate and more. The choice depends on local growing conditions.

After donating trees, we train the farmers in long-term tree care and operating a small business. We also carefully monitor the trees to help ensure survival to fruiting maturity.

$15.00 covers the costs of providing a food-bearing tree that will feed a family for decades. Donate here if you can.

Learn about monitoring via the Treetracker app at Tree Tracking.

FAQs

Why does Trees That Feed Foundation plant fruit trees?
Fruit trees help address hunger, poverty, and environmental challenges at the same time. A single tree can provide food for decades while supporting livelihoods and improving local ecosystems. Learn more about our impact and the countries where we work.
Why breadfruit?
Breadfruit is our flagship tree because it is climate resilient, nutritious, versatile, and highly productive. Once mature, a single tree can produce enough fruit to yield up to 300 pounds of nutrient-rich, gluten-free flour each year. Breadfruit thrives in tropical regions where food insecurity is often greatest, including many of the communities we serve across the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa.
How do you decide where trees are planted?
We work through local partners who identify farmers, schools, and communities that can care for the trees and benefit from their harvest. This community-led approach helps ensure long-term success and local ownership. Anyone can apply for trees on our website.
How effective is tree planting as a hunger solution?
Unlike short-term aid, fruit trees continue producing food year after year. Trees planted through Trees That Feed Foundation are projected to provide hundreds of millions of meals over their lifetimes. Read our Impact Report and media coverage to see the results.
